Juvéderm Voluma® XC
Are you considering a dermal filler to non-surgically rejuvenate your face? Dr. LoVerme offers the popular and effective Juvéderm® family of fillers to his patients in Boston. Many patients are interested in using facial fillers to reduce the signs of aging.
Dr. William LoVerme explains to his facial rejuvenation patients that as we age, our skin cells gradually stop generating elastin and collagen, which are essential for healthy, elastic and youthful-looking skin. When this occurs, facial skin starts to sag. In addition, muscle tone degenerates, and fat is displaced. All these developments lead to hollow-looking areas of the face that lack fullness.
Thankfully, undergoing dermal filler treatment with Dr. William LoVerme, a Sudbury, MA plastic surgeon can help. Dr. LoVerme offers patients in Boston, Wellesley and Sudbury Juvéderm® products, hyaluronic acid-based dermal fillers that are approved by the FDA for use in enhancing volume throughout the mid-face and more!
Juvéderm® products are manufactured by Allergan, the makers of BOTOX® Cosmetic. All of the Juvéderm® products are FDA-approved products and are extremely versatile hyaluronic fillers which may be used to treat a number of different facial renewal goals including facial wrinkles, vertical lip lines, marionette lines around the mouth, cheek, and chin, as well as, lip augmentation. For some patients who aren’t ready or interested in a surgical facelift, Juvéderm® products can be used as a “liquid facelift” by temporarily sculpting and reshaping facial contours.
Juvéderm® manufactures five different types of fillers. Dr. LoVerme determines the appropriate Juvéderm® product to meet his patient’s facial rejuvenation needs and mixes and matches the correct filler for each part of the face.
While each patient is unique Dr. Loverme uses the following Juvéderm® products for specific parts of the face including:
Patients desiring cheek or chin augmentation, Juvéderm Voluma® XC is an excellent facial filler for the upper face (tear troughs and cheeks), as well as, the chin.
Juvéderm Volbella® XC or Juvéderm® Ultra XC can be used for the lips and reducing wrinkles around the mouth.
For patients looking to volumize their face and fill in nasolabial lines and lines around the corners of the mouth, Juvéderm Vollure® XC or Juvéderm® Ultra XC can be used.
For patients looking to correct mild-to-moderate imperfections of the nose, Juvéderm® Ultra XC is used. This non-surgical nose job (rhinoplasty) is a new alternative now available to patients interested in correcting nose bumps/lumps and crooked noses. Dr. LoVerme can skillfully fix these concerns without surgery!
JUVÉDERM VOLUMA® XC FOR AGE-RELATED MIDFACE VOLUME LOSS
You may already have heard of the HA-based dermal filler, Juvéderm®. Now, the same company that makes Juvéderm® offers the newest-generation dermal filler, Juvéderm Voluma® XC.
Traditional Juvéderm® is an effective way of filling in — and thus smoothing out — moderate-to-severe wrinkles and facial folds around the nose and mouth. Juvéderm Voluma® XC is different from its predecessor in that it is designed for use in adding volume to the cheek area. In doing so, Juvéderm® also provides a subtle lifting effect throughout the treatment area.
Candidacy for Juvéderm Voluma® XC
HA-based fillers are typically biocompatible. Therefore, patients are not required to undergo a skin allergy test before treatment. However, it is still important for individuals to let Dr. LoVerme know if they suffer from any allergies before treatment.
Generally, suitable candidates for this nonsurgical cosmetic treatment include individuals who:
- Are a minimum of 21 years old
- Wish to enhance the cheek area
- Desire a slight lift throughout the treatment area
- Are not currently suffering from several severe allergies
- Do not have a history of several serious allergies or of anaphylaxis
- Do not knowingly suffer from gram-positive bacteria protein allergies
- Do not have a history of allergic reaction to lidocaine
Juvéderm Voluma® XC Treatment
Juvéderm Voluma® XC treatment is performed in our office. It does not require any downtime, so you should be able to return to your usual schedule right after.*
Prior to starting treatment, Dr. LoVerme reviews your medical history and aesthetic concerns and evaluates your skin health. He can apply a topical anesthetic, if necessary, to ensure your comfort for the duration of treatment. The Boston plastic surgeon cleans the area to be treated, using alcohol or an alternate type of antiseptic. He injects a small amount of the filler into the treatment area, and might massage the area to ensure even distribution of the product. To minimize discomfort and swelling, an ice pack may be temporarily applied to the treatment area, directly after treatment.*
What to Expect Following Treatment
Because Dr. LoVerme uses a special blunt cannula for injection, most patients have minimal reaction to Voluma®. There is minimal pain, and most patients do not experience any bruising. They are able to function normally that day and resume vigorous exercise activities the next day. Directly following Juvéderm Voluma® XC treatment, the treatment area may be swollen, red, tender or itchy. However, these are normal symptoms that should improve within about two weeks.* You can apply an ice pack to the cheek area to help relieve any discomfort.
Avoiding vigorous exercise, other strenuous activity and sun exposure for the first 24 hours following treatment is advised.*
The aesthetic benefits of Juvéderm Voluma® XC treatment generally last about two years.* To optimize your outcome, you may choose to undergo a touch-up treatment about one month after your original procedure. Depending on your unique aesthetic goals, Dr. LoVerme will recommend an appropriate treatment protocol.
