Sculptra

Injectable collagen stimulator for facial volume restoration

Dr. Katherine Hein is among the top cosmetic surgeons in the Boston, MetroWest, Wellesley, and Sudbury area and she offers Sculptra® Aesthetic injections at her Accurate Aesthetics Plastic Surgery practice.

What is Sculptra® Aesthetic?

Sculptra® Aesthetic is an FDA-approved injectable that works deep within the skin to help replace lost collagen and restore facial volume gradually over time. Unlike traditional dermal fillers that provide immediate volume, Sculptra® Aesthetic stimulates your skin’s own natural collagen production, helping to correct shallow to deep facial wrinkles and folds. Sculptra is not a filler, rather it is a biostimulator of the body’s own natural collagen. Results appear gradually and can last up to and even more than two years in many patients.

Sculptra® Aesthetic is made from poly-L-lactic acid (PLLA), a biocompatible, biodegradable synthetic material that has been used in dissolvable sutures for decades. When expertly administered by a qualified specialist like Dr. Hein, it restores the underlying facial structure that diminishes with age.

Common treatment areas include:

  • Cheeks and mid-face (to restore youthful volume and contour)
  • Temples (to address hollowing associated with aging)
  • Nasolabial folds (smile lines)
  • Marionette lines and chin wrinkles
  • Jawline definition

What can you expect from your Sculptra® procedure?

A Sculptra® Aesthetic treatment consists of a series of injections administered in the targeted area. The injection itself contains lidocaine to minimize discomfort during the procedure. Most patients tolerate the treatment well, with only minor and temporary side effects.

Unlike many other injectables, Sculptra® Aesthetic is typically administered over the course of three treatment sessions, spaced approximately four to six weeks apart. This staged approach allows the collagen-stimulating process to work gradually and naturally, producing subtle, long-lasting results rather than an immediate dramatic change.

After treatment, patients are advised to massage the treated areas for five minutes, five times per day, for five days following each session — a simple routine that helps ensure the product is evenly distributed. It is also recommended to limit sun exposure and to stay well hydrated in the days following treatment.

Results appear gradually over the weeks following each session as your body produces new collagen. Many patients notice continued improvement for several months after their final treatment, with effects lasting up to or even more than two years.
